Do Your Muscles Shake When You Work Out?

February 19, 2007

Do your muscles shake when you’re lifting weights? If you are a seasoned expert or a young “rookie,” it doesn’t matter. They will shake during the last few reps of your strength training set because of one of these few reasons:

  • One cause is just plain muscle fatigue, especially when you reach a particular threshold and you continue to “try” to lift one more rep.

  • Another is when you are beginning a weight lifting program, you are learning a new skill, which the neurological system will react by doing large exaggerated movements when it should be doing small subtle movements, therefore appears a “shake.”

  • Lastly is a lack of nutrients to fuel the contractions the muscle are performing that can produce the “shakes”.  So eat 2-3 hours before each session so there is enough carbs to produce the optimal work.

So if you are getting the “shakes” remember these probabilities…

What are the twitches you get in your muscles after you’ve worked out? Sometimes a day or two after I lift, I will get these twitches that won’t stop. Just wondering what that is. Thanks!

There could be many reasons why, however the answer given to that question by “Diet and Fitness” on Yahoo was it was dehydration. Check that out next time. Hope that helps.

Got something to say?
