Body Awareness Is Key
February 27, 2007
Okay, I’ll be honest; I got into Yoga long before I did Pilates and I LOVE yoga! I am growing to love Pilates. But the most important component that is common to both is body awareness! Too often when we workout we push, force, grind, mush, strain or whatever with a bigger, faster, stronger attitude! It’s a western attitude that we all have bought into hook, line and sinker.
But the beauty that has surfaced in Yoga and Pilates is, we as participants are learning to pay close attention to what we are feeling under our skin, in our muscles, tendons, and ligaments through alignment and through self-reflection. We are now adding to the list a DE-STRESSING component! Couldn’t we all use a little more of that!
When Are You Your Best For Your Workout?
February 26, 2007
There is always the question ” When is the best time of day for a workout that I will see maximum results? ” The answer is specifically, when you feel your best. However, there is a little advantage metabolically when you workout first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach, by the way. You must have enough fuel from the previous day for you to complete your workout session. If you don’t have enough fuel then just take in a little protein and a few crabs or fat. The proteins job is to fuel the muscles that are working, while you burn fat throughout the rest of your session. One idea is to have a protein shake, no carbs or fat included, just before the a.m. workout.
