What To Eat Through The Holidays

November 14, 2007

Okay, so Thanksgiving is the next holiday, which of course we should be very grateful for.  It is a wonderful time of gathering with family and celebrating together our freedoms and prosperity.  BUTTTTTTT……….we all know, it is also a time of over-eating and then later trying to get it off again!!!!   So, indeed, there are some guilt free foods and to name a few here they are:

1.  Turkey.   You just can’t beat a good lean piece of turkey breast.  It has 44 calories and 1 gram of fat and 8 grams of protein an ounce.  This, is one of the healthiest things you can load up on.    Just go light on the gravy when eating, and when cooking  the bird baste it with broth instead of butter!!

2.  Yams.    These are wonderful sources of vitamin B6 and potassium. They won[‘t spike your blood sugar and they contain complex carbs.  Instead of adding marshmallows, or sugar add a little cinnamon.

  1. Pumpkin Pie.  Okay, so it is a dessert, but if your looking for one, look no further, it has enough beta carotene as an entire carrot, just in one slice!  If you are making the pie, substitute skim milk for cream.
  2. Salad.   Just load up on salads and cut up veggies. At least you will be assured of one sure healthy dish on the table.
  3. Cranberries.  These things are really loaded with nutrition.  High levels of vitamin C and antioxidants.  They are also great at inhibiting the growth of harmful bacteria in the bladder and urethra.   Try cooking cranberries in orange juice, instead of sugar!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!  Have a little and enjoy a lot!!

Deep Relaxation

November 4, 2007

Deep relaxation is not a “zoning out” activity.  Or a state in which you enter a sleep state or to leave your body.  It is a refreshing and energizing state of consciousness.  All the systems begin to slow down as they receive the message from the body’s nervous system, respiratory system, circulatory system, and digestive system.  This practice will develop a habit of releasing unwanted stress and tension.
