Walking, A Great Way For Burning Calories

March 1, 2008

You sometimes see runners or walkers out exercising maybe with hand-weights or backpacks or something to add extra weight to create more of the burn. But this is not so good for the body as the uneven weight distribution, which is all in the rear body, is loading in an unnatural way. It may negatively affect your alignment and be bad for your posture.

When I see this, I grimace a little bit and hope they will learn quickly that it is stressing the body in very unnatural way so I would recommend a”walk vest”. This is what I own. And I love it! But of course, please do your research before purchasing anything. What this vest does is evenly distributes weight around the mid-torso, and holds the weight secure, and close to your body with a core conditioning belt. This helps condition your core, tones and strengthens your abs and protect your lower back at the same time. It also allows you to change the amount of weight in the vest. It can hold up to 16 pounds total which, in my opinion, is plenty for power walking or running. So when you do buy one, make sure that the vest can be loaded or unloaded at your fitness level. Plus, it really needs to fit evenly and is securely fastened. You will love this!!

Even if you just go for a walk with your dog or down to the mailbox, the body will burn more calories, tone and strengthen, build more lean muscle tissue and bone density. You will lose weight faster with extra weight because you body doesn’t adapt to it the way it has to your own body weight. So it has to work a little harder, it’s called body confusion.

So, give it a try!! Do away with hand weights, it simply is not wise or good for you. But do get a weighted vest, it will change you!
