Are You A Yoga Loving Athlete?

April 4, 2008

I am definitely a yoga-loving athlete. When I say I am an athlete, it means I workout every day doing moderate to intense exercises. I don’t have to compete in order to be an athlete, I just use my body for my job.

But my point in this blog, is my practice of yoga has improved every other aspect of my fitness. Just doing simple downward facing dog has helped counterbalance the explosive runs, leaps and kicks on and off the step. As well as using gliding disks, stability balls, medicine balls, weights, and jump ropes.

The best surprise is how I have been much better at making decisions in the middle of my workouts to help myself either heal through sensitive modifications or stay injury free! It seems to help me slow down when I’m overdoing particularly through the yogic breathing. Physical exertion can be mentally draining as well as physically draining, but with the effects of yoga you can come out of your workout in a peaceful way and therein comes the balance we all need and crave. The ability to listen to your body during your current workout will carry over into the next workout. Making your stronger versus tearing down through muscle fatigue and soreness.

I will never stop working out in an intense, physical way, but with yoga in the mix I can be sensitive to my body to keep it running optimally and injury free.

In other words, I want to be both STRONG and SMART!!

I just recently started to work out with Deni Preston on BYU-TV and love her yoga program. I would like to purchase her yoga workout that specfically deals with the shoulders and hips.

Hi CIndy, thank you so much for your vote!!! Right now BYUTV does not offer videos for sale, however, you can tape it and have it for your use whenever you need it. Good luck on your workouts and enjoy!
    Love,
    Deni
