Body Awareness Is Key

February 27, 2007

Okay, I’ll be honest; I got into Yoga long before I did Pilates and I LOVE yoga!  I am growing to love Pilates.  But the most important component that is common to both is body awareness!   Too often when we workout we push, force, grind, mush, strain or whatever with a bigger, faster, stronger attitude! It’s a western attitude that we all have bought into hook, line and sinker.

But the beauty that has surfaced in Yoga and Pilates is, we as participants are learning to pay close attention to what we are feeling under our skin, in our muscles, tendons, and ligaments through alignment and through self-reflection.   We are now adding to the list a DE-STRESSING component!  Couldn’t we all use a little more of that!

Thank you so much for making this wonderful website! My older sister is pregnant and has been really stressed out so I showed her your website and helped her find some yoga moves that she could do to help reduce her stress. She’s also been learning how to listen to her body for a change, through the help of your website and all the great information. Thanks a bunch!

Got something to say?
