Healthy Breakfast Foods!

August 26, 2008

Is healthy breakfast foods difficult for you?  For me it is, because of many food allergies and a lifetime of hurry, hurry, hurry!  But here are some suggestions for you to eat what I call healthy breakfast foods.  You may have more to add to it from your experience of finding the foods that work for you.

Being lactose intolerant I choose to eat Rice milk or almond milk.  While having cereal choices, I choose oatmeal or a Kashi cereal of some sort.  It is wonderfully high in fiber, which we need so badly for a healthy system.

Try some nuts, seeds and berries thrown in that cereal.  Wow, is that exceptionally yummy.  Or maybe have a Activa yogurt for the wonderful live bacillis with some flax seed or oats mixed in it.

Or what about including a low-sodium V-8 juice added to your healthy breakfast foods list to give you a taste of veggies early in the morning.

Anyway you cut it, we need fruit, vegetables, whole grains and some dairy such as yogurt in our diet and get our day started very nicely.  Now, this article is quite general, but we should desire to get our day going with fuel so our brain functions as well as our body just as we want our cars to function and be available for our use.

There used to be a time I didn’t eat breakfast so well, but now I can’t go without it!  I feel so good, my body feels so good, especially when I put my body through some intense exercise.  There is literally no time to waste, put aside your bad habits and begin today feeding your body with the wonderful variety of healthy breakfast foods, hopefully it is foods that are still as close to nature as you can get it!!

The Cookie Diet

July 21, 2008

I thought I had heard everything, until I heard about The Cookie Diet!  It is supposed to be a low calorie diet based on hunger suppressing meal replacements in the form of a cookie! First of all, there are a number of cookie diets out there that require you to eat from four to six cookies a day.   These cookies are specially formulated cookies and it is the primary source of nutrition while on this diet.  The motivation is to see fast results and those cookies are convenient and easy to grab!  So here is there the cookie diet plan, to consume 6 cookies a day with one meal (dinner) of chicken, fish and vegetables.   Each cookie has 90 calories and the meal you would eat is 300 calories, so do the math, it would be 840 calories per day total.  Think this sounds good?  Maybe for the desperate.

There are warning bells here for The Cookie Diet, in my mind.   One is the fact it is so low in calories.   Our body’s metabolism will shut down if caloric intake falls below 1200 for women and 1500 for men.  Another is the lack of variety of foods.  That variety gives us proper nutrition.  When you leave a food group out, it is a sure sign of an unbalanced food plan.   Another is the fact of wanting to see weight loss fast, well, you guys, you won’t be losing fat.  You body fat will increase on diets such as these in the long run.   Any time you mess with the metabolism, you are asking for long time fixing of the metabolism.  And it is a pain plus you will get a whole lot of frustration in the end.

The Cookie Diet is crazy to me, medically, physically, and even emotionally.  We need food and The Cookie Diet will not give you that ever so basic need.  Sorry, guys, hope you don’t have to be one who has to learn the hard way.   Love You!!
