Exercises You Can Do While Watching TV

What do you do when you are watching a 30-minute sitcom or American Idol? Run to the refrigerator and get something to eat, or fast forwarding through the commercials? How about turning the commercial breaks into a little exercise session?? Usually through a 30 minute program you will have 3 commercials that are about 3-4 minutes in length. You can get a lot done in that little bit of time with these few suggestions:
1. Lower Body
a. Plie’ Squats
b. Lunges
c. Chair squats
d. Balance exercises
2. Upper Body
a. Dips
b. Push-ups
c. Exercises with hand weights or tubing.
3. Cardio movements
a. March in place
b. Step close in place
4. Abdominals
a. Bicycle
b. Basic crunch
c. Plank
d. Pilates-based abs
Though it isn’t really a substitute for your regular routine exercise program, by doing just this little bit of extra strength training, it will have a noticeable impact.

Oooh, I sit on a stability ball and balance during entire episodes of shows. It annoys my husband, but I think it’s fun to balance sitting cross-legged or kneeling and raising my torso up, not to mention rolling out and doing push-ups and jack knifes.
My 8yr old son Titan and I love to do morning Yoga at home to Deni’s KBYU show when I come home from out of town. Getting kids involved early, and doing it together as a father son team is a fun bonding and healthy fitness activity we can do now and at any stage of our lives. Kids are naturally more flexible and relate well to the animal names of certain poses such as dog, child, and pidgeon, etc…
