How To Achieve The Results Your Looking For In Health And Wellness

July 17, 2007

We are all looking for the long-term habits or life style that will bring us the desired results in terms of health and wellness.  According to Psychologytoday.com, by making the right food choices or right carb choices, we can do just that. All it takes is knowledge and discipline.  This tip will assist in more endurance, a steadier supply of energy, and the longer sense of feeling full and satisfied.

Learning to make “slow” carb choices or complex carbohydrates will keep the blood sugar steady and provide a steady stream of energy to the body and the brain.  Does anyone have trouble thinking at times?

Some examples of these good carbs are oatmeal, lentils, brown rice, beans and whole wheat.

“Fast” carbs or simple carbohydrates are those we all know, such as doughnuts, twinkies, chips and many others.  These are the “junk-foods”, the empty calories that give our bodies a roller coaster ride through blood sugar, causing irritability, cloudy thinking and will lead to insulin resistance—the beginning of Type 2 Diabetes with many health consequences.

According to Psychologytoday.com there is a wonderful tool we can use to determine which foods are fast or slow carbs with a number associated to it to further our best choice of foods.  It is glycemicindex.com, a website service in Australia that is run by Sydney University Glycemic Index Research group.

The lower the number, the slower the carb, which in turn, the longer the endurance and the steadier the blood sugar. A baked potato is 111 versus lentils, which read at 40.

I hope you will take time to check this website out!
