How To Feel Good For 2008
January 12, 2008
Well, here we are in a NEW YEAR and it’s time to stop drinking wassail and start thinking waistlines. The Utah Nutrition Council gave some tips recently that will help us lose weight, which we all want to do!
- Teach yourself or your kids or someone how to COOK!!! We don’t want to rely on fast food or prepackaged foods for the rest of our lives. In fact, let’s bring the nurture back into nutrition by eating together at least once per day. There are wonderful benefits to eating together, better family cohesiveness, better communication skills, improved language skills, less risky behavior in teens, and at the same time you eat more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains by both parents and children.
- Forget all about bottled designer water. Just use plain old tap water, filtered if you prefer the taste, and its economical and an effective way to keep well hydrated. You can attain this with 8-12 cups of water per day. If you have any question, drink until your urine is light straw-colored and your skin has good elasticity.
- Choose a fruit and a veggie for at least one snack a day. Choose different colors as well. The colors really encourage the taste buds.
- MOVE!! When talking on the phone, never sit, walk around and march in place or do calf raises. Do Something!!!
- Moderation in all things. Listen to your body and avoid bakery shops.
- Don’t deny yourself food groups, this will lead to craving more. Just allow yourself small portions. Be mindful of what you eat and enjoy the flavor the texture and smell.
- Eat more whole grains. Greater whole grain consumption has been linked to 20-30 percent lower risk of diabetes and heart disease.
- Also, dish out less food than you think you might want. You won’t miss it!!
So, we always have good intentions and great resolutions at the beginning of the year but they are usually unrealistic. Try these few changes in your lifestyle and start to watch the pounds melt away without even trying very hard!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
