Live Longer, Look Better Doing Aerobic Exercise
April 9, 2008
When men fall below 18 ml and women 15 ml in maximal aerobic power, it becomes much more difficult to do any exercise without experiencing exhaustion and major fatigue. The typical 60 year-old male has a max aerobic power of roughly 25 ml, nearly half of what 20 year-olds have.
Study author Dr. Roy Shephard at the University of Toronto in Canada says, “There seems good evidence that the conversation of maximal oxygen intake increases the likelihood that the healthy elderly person will retain functional independence.”
The study also found that aerobic exercise reduces the risk of serious diseases and fosters faster recovery after injury or illness. Furthermore, it helps maintain balance and coordination, muscle power, and reduces the risk of falls.
