William Evans, Ph.D said, “Loss of muscle mass appears to be a lifelong process after peak growth. Thirty-year-olds have less muscle mass than twenty-year-olds, with about a 5 percent loss per decade. The decrease in metabolic rate in aging is almost entirely due to this decrease in muscle tissue. Many athletes need to resistance train to build and maintain muscle and we have seen positive results in or studies in athletes 35 years and older.”
I think that I can agree with this statement wholeheartedly, as I, myself, keep strength training, consistently in my workout program. Being 55 years of age (next month), I can honestly say, I’m managing to keep my muscle mass,(not that it is gigantic!) thus in turn keeping my metabolic rate up because I include 3 days a week a 30-45 minute focused workout on strength. You go girl!!!
