Principles Of Yoga

January 16, 2008

It is amazing how you can apply the principles of yoga to even Money Matters!  For instance one person wrote in to Yoga Journal that they were in credit card debt again and can’t seem to get a handle on their finances and wondered what to do???  The advice given was really based on the principles taught in class.

     1.  Seek the truth:  do you know the truth about your financial situation such as how        much you earn, spend and owe?   Oftentimes, people will put those things in the drawer and close it because it is EASIER to avoid than to look at it squarely.  Practice Satya, which is the practice of honesty.  To tell the truth to ourselves as well as to others.  IT can be challenging, but yoga asks us, God asks us too, to face the truth in all areas of life, including your relationships and your spending habits.  Daveramsey.com has a wonderful program to get this in to shape.

  1. Contemplate:  Look underneath the surface of your thoughts.  Are you negative about your financial state or that you live with prosperity? Try to understand your motivations, are you playing a negative tape in your head. Or are you afraid you will lose something valuable, like security by changing the way you deal with money?  Write down what you discover. Then thin k of new ways to get a handle on debt.
  2. Ask for Help:  Money is hard for everyone especially if you haven’t been taught the basics or haven’t allowed yourself to be taught.  As for assistance from those whom you know have it together.  Or speak with a professional who has nothing to sell.

It is simply amazing to me how we can apply the principles of truth in our lives to better whatever area needs attention.  Really, principles never change it is the practice that can have mobility and fluidity!   Many Blessings!
