The Bodies Reaction To Stress
March 5, 2007
I’m sure you have learned by now that there are physiological responses to stress in your life and they aren’t all good.
The body has this physical reaction to the positive or negative stressful demands being placed on it from life situations which may include:
Faster rate of breathing
Higher blood preassure
Increased sugar in the blood
Faster heart rate
More output of perspiration
Increased muscle tension
Loosening of the bladder and bowel muscles
Cessation of digestion
Dilation of the pupils of the eyes
Your body is really going into a “flight or flight” response to the stress. Many times you can’t do either and you have to stay in the situation and “dwell.” If this is happening and your body systems are going through the above list long enough, your body will wear out and set you up for injury or illness.
In other words, more STRESS! This is called being caught in a double-bind! Now, good or bad, stress will be our response when we get out of balance from those life’s experiences. The good news is we have a choice, simply if we choose to react negatively we may see these things as threats to our stability that will result in us not doing anything, we will essentially be frozen in fear. On the contrary, we can take the positive outlook and look at it as opening doors we wouldn’t have or more possibilities and growth. The choice is ours! Which will be yours when those stress come?
