The Effectiveness Of Powertone, Powerpump, Or Bodypump

June 18, 2007

Hopefully you have had the opportunity to attend a Powertone, Powerpump or Bodypump class before!  For your information, if you do not know what this is, they are group strength training classes that entered into the fitness arena in the 1990’s.  They are a blast!  But what I want to share with you is the study that has been done on this and the effectiveness of these classes.

This study was done at the University of Auckland in New Zealand.  It involved 130 untrained individuals ages 16 to 60 years of age, who attended three classes a week for three months.  The results:

1.The average increase in muscular endurance in their upper body was 27.5 percent.

2.They boosted their aerobic fitness by 6 percent.

3.Reduced their body fat from 32.2 to 29.5 percent.

4. Were able to perform more leg presses using greater weight after they completed the training.

So, in short, the proof is in this study, these classes really do deliver!!!
