The Elliptical: A Great Way For Cardio
August 15, 2007
I own an elliptical cardio machine!!  And I love it!!! Elliptical workouts are really good for everyone, especially people with knee problems because it is much easier on the joints. It is a fabulous cardio alternative to running or even stepping if you have those issues plaguing you at any time!!
Ellipticals have a lot of variables already built in, one of them is the moveable handles that will work your upper body at the same time as the lower body. Using them will maximize your workout. So use them!!
The elliptical has the variable of increasing resistance. By doing so you target different leg muscles as you ramp it. If you ramp up and are pedaling forward you use the hamstrings, the glutes and the calves. If you lower the ramp and pedal backwards you will be training the quadriceps and the dorsiflexors of the front leg.
When I’m not teaching or cannot get outside because of weather or whatever the issue, I use my elliptical. And I work up a good sweat. That alone tells me I am working.Â
If you can’t own one you will find them at the gym or rec center!! Try it, you’ll really enjoy it!!
