Walking, An Easy Exercise For Most Everyone
March 6, 2007
Fitness walking is probably the easiest of all aerobic options out there because you can do it anywhere, anytime with no need for equipment or instruction from anyone else. All you need is comfortable shoes and attire! However, fitness walking does take three times as long to get the same aerobic benefits as from running, so time is a factor. When walking it takes approximately 14 minutes to a mile opposed to joggings 9 to 12 minutes to a mile. In running it takes less than 9 minutes. Oh, and don’t forget to include a warm-up and cool-down when planning your time efficiently!!! Enjoy the sunshine!

Answer To Your Fitness Questions" />

Alright, I’ve been wanting to ask — for general health (I’ve given-up on being slim and trim like a supermodel — but I would like to get my BMI out of obsese if possible) how many hours a week do you recommend to exercise, and is it OK to get 15 minutes here or is there a certain length your workouts should be?
Hi Hilary, the reality is getting 15 minutes here and there is all well and good for those who are sedentary. Because it is better than nothing, we were mean’t to move and getting 15 minutes is better than 0. Do you consider yourself sedentary? That’s the question you have to answer first. If you are not, than you go to those guidelines of 30 minutes minimum daily for maintenance and more for weight loss. You need a minimum of 3-5 times per weeks of cardio for optimal results, 2-3 times a week of strength training, and flexibility should be daily. You may be on a plateau that simply must be bumped off by doing a little more cardio. The second thing is diet. That is a whole conversation in and of itself. Nutrition is about 70% and exercise is about 30% of your results. How are you doing there? Bottom line is you have to journal what you eat to see how you are really doing! Let’s chat some more when you have more questions.
