Yoga Pose: Utthita Trikoasana Or The Triangle Pose
July 11, 2007
Often times we desire to know more about a single yoga pose we are doing in our practice in terms of the benefits that may come from regularly doing it. So for this blog, I want to focus on Utthita Trikoasana, or otherwise known as Triangle Pose and share some of the benefits that come from it.
Triangle has a way of teaching the back leg and foot to lengthen and root into the ground. It balances and strengthens the muscles of the leg, spine and hips.
As you rotate around the spinal cord to your own degree then it teaches a sense of direction and balance. It will create space for the internal organs and more length for the spine. The ribs will get a wonderful stretch, which in turn will open the chest for deeper breath.
Also, one nice thing about triangle is it’s innate ability to relieve tension in the back muscles.
If you feel unbalanced doing this pose, one great way is to use the wall, which really is an invisible teacher, showing where you should be in space. By using the wall, you have support as you twist and you won’t topple.
Whenever I think of Yoga, I think of this pose and the beauty of it, no matter where you are.
I love Triangle Pose, it is one of my favorites, hope it’s yours too!!
