Your “Nuts” If You Don’t Eat Them

May 3, 2007

If you are in need of a good snack that is nutritious and yet filling add nuts to your diet.  The best choice is raw, unsalted nuts.  Preferably almonds, hazelnuts, pecans or brazils.  They are a good source of antioxidants, vitamin E and selenium.  They have fiber and they are unsaturated fat.

Research shows that unsaturated fat can actually reduce cholesterol, the unhealthy LDL, not the healthy HDL.  The downside to nuts is they are addicting so be sure to count them out.   Eating 1.5 ounces of nuts, five days a week has been linked to reducing risk of heart disease.
